As promised, here are more pictures of the home renovation now that we’ve moved our furniture in. You can see others by doing a search for DIY on this blog. For the living room, I actually had to hire someone to help scrape and paint the popcorn ceilings, because even on a 16′ ladder, I wasn’t able to reach the cathedral ceilings at the top. Then I painted the walls a light grey above the chair rail, and installed faux wainscoting and painted all the moulding and bookshelves white (it was closer to a cream color before). We installed a new light and ceiling fan, ripped the carpet up, and put down bamboo flooring. Then we got to do the fun stuff: hanging art. I still need to create a piece to go over the bookshelves and fireplace, but I’m waiting for inspiration to hit. Here are the before and afters:
See the chair with the butterflies and moths on the right? We found that chair about a minute before we found the penny that made me cry, so it makes me extra happy to have it because it’s a reminder of my dad.
I also refinished the railings to match the floors using the Cabinet Transformations kit that I used on the cabinets:
The last couple shots didn’t show the ceiling fan, which I’m in love with, or the new painting I created for the wall up high, so here’s one more shot:
Your living room makeover turned out beautiful! Love the large art piece you created too. I’m considering mounting my tv over the fireplace. Do you like yours placed there? Have a lovely evening. Koko:)

What I love about mounting the TV up there is that it gives us more floor room so it feels more spacious, but I have to admit it takes a little getting used having to look up to watch it. I think if our TV was any smaller, it wouldn’t work. I generally get annoyed with taking up wall space for a TV instead of art, but over the fireplace I didn’t feel quite so strongly about it. And getting the extra floor space in a relatively small room was worth it.

I bought a mounting kit and it has a tilt down feature. I hope this helps! I too was hoping it would be with gaining some space. Take care and hope your weekend is awesome!

Beautiful! The room looks so much brighter. I love that ceiling fan, too, I have the same one!

I hope you had an easier time of it than we did with installing it! took us about 3 hours to hang the blasted thing because of the angle of the cathedral ceiling, but it was worth it. I love how clean and modern the fan looks without being too weird. I was so happy when my husband liked it, too.

Oh no! We have low 1960’s ceilings, so we didn’t encounter the same issue. I got a great deal on it used and did take a couple of months to talk my husband into replacing the old one that was “perfectly fine” (aka not nice looking at all) haha!
