That’s right. You may not have heard, but holiday sales are a thing, apparently. And guess what? They’re a thing on my website. I’ve got more paintings than I know what to do with, and you’ve got friends and family that need art to brighten up their homes and offices. Sounds like a perfect match. Come to think of it, your home and office could really use some brightening, too. No judgment, but you should really fix that.

Now until December 31st, I’m offering 25% off all orders over $100. Use Coupon Code HOLIDAY2018 when you check out. And note that I’m running the sale until the end of the year, so, if you want, you can sit down with the person you’re buying for and let them choose what painting they’re getting. Because I’m nice like that. And because I’m desperate like that.

So go to https://shop.emilypageart.com and order your artwork now! If you’re more interested in prints of my art or merchandise with my artwork on it, you can find those here, here, here, and here.

My fellow tattoo artist at Ratatat Tats, Julio, loves drawings and paintings of women with Harley Quinn clown makeup. He had a bare wall in his studio room, so as a suprise, I made him two paintings. I took the pin-up girl style, added the clown makeup, and then, because he frequently suggests filling in space around tattoos with “some filigree and some roses,” I included each in these sister paintings as a little insider joke. I’ll post one painting today (the one with the filigree) and one tomorrow. Both are available as prints, shirts, dresses, pillows, mugs, and other fun swag. Links below the image.

I finally set up one of the spare rooms at the tattoo studio so that I could do some painting on my down time. I had started this painting almost 2 years ago, but after doing several veggie paintings, I sort of burned out on them for a little while. I finally decided to sit down and finish this little guy, and now I love it!

I finished it while listening to the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing, which was upsetting me for various reasons. I feel like our world is shifting in a very scary direction. That’s why I named the painting, “At Least We Still Have Tomatoes.” Silver lining, right?

I have some friends who are actually amazing art patrons. They’ve bought a lot of my art and commissioned paintings over the last few years. They had a big open wall in their dining room that needed art, so they commissioned me to create another piece for them. They had seen this painting hanging in my tattoo studio and really liked it, so we used that as a jumping off point:

The husband collects maps, so I decided to add that as a component of the painting I was creating for them. I was giddy getting to work on large canvases again! Here is the finished triptych I just hung in their home:

Lions, and Elephants, and Dancers, Oh My!

I’ve been playing around with ideas for watercolor style tattoos for a couple weeks on my downtime at the studio. Since some of them are really fun, I figured I’d go ahead and share them here. If anyone wants me to tattoo one of them on you, holla. The first two are different concepts for the same dancer. The lion and elephant aren’t related, but I’ve seen a lot of people getting generic tattoos of lions and elephants, so I wanted to play with making them really unique.

As promised, here’s my last week in tattoos. I’ve stopped snapping pics of every single tattoo. I mean, I ran a special in preparation for OutRaleigh’s festival this weekend and did a whole bunch of rainbow hearts, equality symbols, and an asexual flag, and they were all that unique or interesting, so I didn’t bother getting pictures of them. But I did want to tell you about them because it was a wonderful Saturday full of love and I’m totally going to do it again next year as a fundraiser for Raleigh’s LGBTQ center. I also didn’t snap pics of the several tiny little stars or treble clefs or triangles, etc, nor did I opt to photograph the pentagram and goat head I did yesterday (but I’ll be sure to post a pic of the cover-up of that one when he grows up and realizes his mistake and comes back in 5 years, lol).

So here are the ones I deemed worthy of a photo:

Ginko - Rachel Faison_compressed

For an environmental scientist

juggling - Kathy Carson_compressed

For a professional clown

owl - Katie Samuel_compressed

In honor of a grandparent

star trek - Gigi_compressed

Added the words to the existing star from the Star Trek badges.

And finally, the piece de resistance: a customer requested a full-figured pinup in Day of the Dead makeup with a line body that would “make [his] mother uncomfortable.” So I gave him this:

Right now, I still have a lot of down time at the tattoo studio as I wait for word of mouth to do its thing and bring me more customers. I’m putting that time to use playing with ideas for tattoos. I’m ever so slightly obsessed with mandalas at the moment, so I thought I’d share some that I’ve been doodling and noodling around with. If anyone is interested in getting one of these tattooed on them, let me know! I started with just a couple simple mandalas joined together with some paisley:

mandalas-for-sarah-dewan.jpg

This one has already been claimed, but I can create something similar.

mandala ohm

I followed that up with a mandala peacock:

mandala-peacock.jpg

And then I got totally carried away and created several mandala and elephant drawings, which one of my genius friends dubber Mandalephants:

mandalephant-2.jpg

And then I made a copy of the last one and colored it in just for funsies:

mandalephant-colored-in.jpg

I’m actually kind of wishing I’d left out the pink and purple, but whatevs.

If you have an idea for a new subject, like, say a lotus flower, or a cat, or a buddha, etc, feel free to suggest it!

Lemon Peel Twist

I realized that it’s been 7 or 8 weeks since I painted with oils, and after feeling so incompetent learning tattooing, I decided it would be good for me to take a little time out on my day off to do something I actually know how to do. So I got the paintbrushes and oil paints out and finally finished a painting that I had been working on for months. I had set it aside because it just hadn’t been working, but after today, I’m finally ready to call it “finished” and sign the sucker (or, maybe, sign the pucker?).

You can purchase the original on my website here, or get prints and other fun stuff featuring this painting here and here. Know a chef? Get it for them! Or, at least, tell them about it and all my other food-inspired art!

Remember how I posted a painting and asked if anyone would be willing to let me tattoo it on them? Well, I finally got to do it! Here’s the painting, as a reminder:

art nouveau girl 1

To fit the shape of the shoulder that our lovely volunteer wanted it tattooed on, I changed the design a little bit. We were a little short on time, so there are a couple things I’d like to touch up on it once it’s healed, but overall, I’m good with it.

Nolite Te Bastardes Carborudorum

My last couple Saturdays have been, apparently, Badass Babe Days. Lots of women coming in for their very first tattoos, or tattoos that are meant to remind them of their own inner strength (or both). This past Saturday was no exception, and I freakin’ LOVE being a part of it. I know these two women well, and we’ve bonded, in part, because they’ve each already lost a parent, too, and because they’ve had their own medical battles to contend with like I have. So getting to remind them of their own badassery makes me really happy:

Sarah D's daisy.jpg

For this next one, my friend came in and just got the outline and some shading, and she’ll be back once it’s healed a bit to add color. I love that she went so bold for her very first tattoo.

Doesn’t she remind you of Rosie the Riveter?
